OK - thanks I signed up for it.
I agree that the volume of daily posts in the main group is slightly overwhelming!

It is more focused on AutoTrading and has less members (around 1000 :-). The main group has close to 10000 members. You may get better and faster responses if you ask questions regarding AT there.

Well done you are ahead of me then! When are you planning on trading live?

Is the yahoo group different from the main amibroker one?

Jez,

I feel for you :-)
We have similar professional background and interests. I was able to build some autotrade systems using Amibroker and IBController (free from Amibroker) and data from IB (free) and IQFeed (around $60 a month). Now they are still in paper trading process, but look promising.
There is an AmiBroker-at yahoo newsgroup you can subscribe to (if you have not done so), where people discuss many AT ideas and many AT templates in AFL are available there too.

Good luck,

- Mark

Jack,

My main goal was to build something not too complicated from scratch (its always the eternal debate: build vs buy - or use external platform). I have already aborted a project of building a java platform to combine back-test, live trading and broker connectivity but realised that I did not want to spend months (or years) building this instead of working on developing a trading system!

Building a live trading platform would be a bit of a "pet project". It would also allow me to build something exactly to my specs and that I understand inside out.. I'll probably build a quick prototype at some point, to help zoom in on the detailed requirements and estimate development time for a productionised version.

Do you have any experience with open-source platforms yourself? Would be interested to hear what your experience with them is (ie learning curve, quality of functionality, extendability, etc.) as I do think it might be a very viable option also.
